Dean Fields is one of those rare musicians that seem to be able to make their instrument speak. As a guitarist and producer, he has a thoughtful approach coupled with a terrifying work ethic. He’s been on stage since he was eleven years old, and his years playing have taken him to venues as far as Valencia, Spain as well as American east coast staples from Arlene’s Grocery and Rockwood Music Hall in Manhattan to Midway Cafe and Red Room in Boston.
With a unique passion for jazz, Dean knows the value of listening, and it allows him to slip effectively into any ensemble. Still, he has performed in a variety of genres, ranging from pop to punk and even further. His Berklee education and his deep comfort with the guitar show in his tone. His mastery of the technical aspects allows him to move through improvisational spaces, dripping with personality.
As a producer, Dean has also played his beats throughout the Eastern Massachusetts area. In his production he draws on influences such as J Dilla, Madlib, and Flying Lotus. Showcasing an almost surreal sound, Dean utilizes his familiarity with jazz composition to produce tracks buzzing with both experimentation and polish.
Dean’s variety of tastes allow him to be a real asset to any band. He has been a part of many projects over the years and is always looking for his next one. While he has most recently been travelling across New England playing in a wedding band, he is also constantly producing his own work.
Dean is also available as a guitar teacher, experienced with and available to all ages of students. He has coached many aspiring guitarists to higher levels of musicianship, and can offer a deep musical knowledge and a fine-tuned listening ear.
